Indonesia Fashion Week

Branded the “biggest Fashion Movement,” Indonesia fashion week (IFW) made it inaugural debut in 2012. Spear headed by the local government and the event organizers APPMI (Indonesian Fashion Designers Association), IFW is an ambitious push by the government to put Indonesia on the map as a “fashion capital” of Asia.

Held in the Plenary Hall at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), IFW is unlike any other Fashion week. It is a combination of runway shows and a trade show exhibiting hundreds of designers, all held side by side in one location. The event is divided into 4 (four) main elements: Fashion shows, Exhibitions, Talk shows/seminars, and competitions. The theme for the 2013 event is ”Inspiring Indonesia” and each day of the four-day event will be dedicated to a different theme. Cocktail / Evening Wear for the first day, Muslim Wear for a second day. While the third and fourth days respectively theme of Men’s Casual & Urban Wear and Cutting Edge. This event unites all important elements of fashion from designers, academic institutions, business, association to government.

IFW is expected to feature over 208 local and international designers and 580 brands, who’s designs are steeped in local heritage but also understand how to produce cutting edge and modern designs fit for an international audience. Participating designers are carefully hand-selected by the APPMI and the cost of involvement is subsidized by the government, which is great for upcoming designers who may otherwise find participation unaffordable.

Among the 208 designers who will showcase their collections are Deden Siswanto, Ardistia New York, Hengky Kawilarang, Auguste Soesatro, Ivan Gunawan, Lenny Agustin, Shafira, Sebastian Gunawan, Sofie, Denny Wiryawan, Jeany Ang, Irna Mutiara, Tri Handoko, Poppy Dharsono, Ichwan Thoha, Jeny Tjahyawati, Samuel Watimena, and Ria Miranda.
Special guests appearances will include designers from World Fashion Week based in New York City. Those designers include Paco de Jaimes, Samuel Cirnansck (Brazil), Melinda Looi (Malysia), Addy Van de Krommenacker (Netherland), and Camilla Welton (Sweden).
