Known as the fashion capital of Scandinavia, Copenhagen is host to the Nordic Region’s largest fashion event. Copenhagen Fashion Week (CFW) is a twice-annual event and is considered the largest fashion festival in north Europe attracting more than 60,000 international buyers, designers, models celebrities and fashionistas from around the globe.
Occurring in February for the autumn / fall collections and August for the spring / summer collections, CFW festival runs over four days and consists of the 4 market trade fairs: CIFF, CIFF Kids, VISION, and the Gallery. Over 1000 exhibitors and more than 2,400 brands are expected to showcase their collections.
Held at the city’s 40 year-old Stock Exchange building, Copenhagen fashion week brings together a mix of the modern Scandinavian design aesthetic with edgy upcoming labels and elegant evening-wear from leading fashion houses around the world. As the first fashion week to be driven by wind power, Copenhagen Fashion Week organizers are striving for prominence as one of the major player on the international runway schedule.
Over the last few years, Danish fashion has come to prominence thanks not only its somewhat unique and quirky style but also due to the ingenuity of it’s designers to in cooperate sustainable materials in their collections. At this year’s event, many designers are expected to display their sustainable fashion collections and the event itself will be the first to use wind energy to power its five floors, more than 100 catwalk shows, shuttle buses and the metro, with a turbine installed especially for the event.
The event is expected to see designs from well known international designers like Vivienne Westwood (UK), Henrik Vibskov (DK), Peter Jensen (UK) and Marlène Birger (DK) and from promising newcomers designers like Bibi Chemnitz from Greenland, Places by Gideon from Hong Kong, 2of + ByYat from Finland and AYNI CPH from Peru/Denmark.
In addition to the catwalk shows, Copenhagen is also a favourite place for many street style photographers. Whether visiting the fashion fairs, the show scenes or just taking a walk around the city, Copenhagen offers fashion lovers many style inspirations.
